15x18 inch watercolor

Re-work

The top image is the final re-work. The bottom image had to many hard edges and the bird was way to pronounced. So I toned it down a bit and maybe even a bit to much.

Tepid-rework

I posted this image a while back, then after some input from artist friends I decided to rework it a bit.
.This is the rework, I just changed the back ground on the top.

Multi Media Competition & Auction

So the Beatnik Studios is seeking artists to participate in an upcoming, collaborative show with the Sacramento Tree Foundation and I am a totally tree huger so I am submitting these to be reviewed for the show. Not sure of the guidelines so we will see where this goes. The top image I posted in an earlier post but had made a few changes. Anyway, good times.

Figure Contest

3-18x24 inch oils on canvas

Time to take a chance and enter into a contest. It is $35 dollars for three works of art, so the loss is pretty minimal. I could have entered a watercolor or drawing but thought I would keep it consistent and send all oils. It is hosted out of St Louis, Mo bye Fontbonne University Fine Arts Gallery. I picked this contest because, first I have to start somewhere and second I really really like one of the three jurors, Alex Kanevsky. So wish me luck!!!!!

Figure Painting

11.5x15 inch watercolors
It is the holidays and everyone came out to paint tonight. And wow what a great model, I was feeling festive and gave her the vertical painting because she commented on it. Was able to grab a snapshot to share. I have not painted the figure in watercolors for a while, it was fun.

Bad Reproductions

22x28 inch watercolor
Well I think this painting has some great aspects, but you could never tell by the bad reproduction. I need to solve this problem some day, but until then I will just post what I can.

Changes

I painted this a while back and felt like it needed some changes. It was to dull, so I gave it some depth and punch.

Watercolors

Just a few paintings I did the other day. I kind of set aside the watercolors for awhile and really tried to painting with oils for the first time in my life and it has been a rough few years. I still want to try to work landscape stuff in oil, but it is so hard for me to grasp. I spent many years learning watercolor and painting transparent so the change has not been kind. And when I struggle I find it comforting to go back to where I began in my safe zone, for me the watercolors are that special zone.

Watercolor Sketches

The first image of the woman holding the basket was copied from the cover of my new book, Sargent and the Sea. And the landscape was from a photo of a local lake I paddle.

Figure Painting

Keep things simple in figure class this week. I tried a black and white and then really changed it up and did one with back and white plus brown. Also included a sketch from the session.

Anticipating

24x36 inch oil on panel
Well some of this painting is dry and some parts are wet, so the color is a bit off. Maybe I will photo it again when dry or after the varnish if I go that direction.
